After leaving hipster darlings Girls, Christopher Owens managed to swerve a complete meltdown and instead present us with new album Lysandre (which, if you go by the name and opening tracks, sounds like something that wouldn’t be amiss in the mad canon of Patrick Wolf).
While not as completely bat-shit mental as fellow Pitchfork bum-chum Ariel Pink, there’s a wonderful degree of eccentricity here to follow the concept of Lysandre. Flutes flow mellifluously over guitars on Here We Go (below), like indie rock meeting a medieval banquet, while other songs meander to long harmonica or sax solos. As you do.
Whatever it is, we bloody love it. Along with Low’s The Invisible Way, this is one of the first must-have albums of 2013.
