Well, with an album title like The Man Who Died in His Boat, you can’t expect some sort of cheery pop outfit, can you? Grouper aka Liz Harris presents her latest offering, full of all the wistful, fuzzy drones we know and (some of us) love.
While it would be nice for her to see a Grimes-style breakthrough, the tunes are probably a bit too subdued for that to happen. But both the title track and Vital (below, which we’re convinced is an avant-garde reworking of Wishing on a Star) should open her up to the wider audience she deserves. Haunting stuff.
