UPCOMING: Oli Hannaford

“Breathe… and take five minutes” – with a simple phrase, Oli Hannaford cemented his track Lily as of our FAVOURITE jams of the year. As a result we thought something a bit better than a usual Upcoming post might be in order. So here’s a little Q&A for you to get to know the lad more before you stream the track below. Warning: he’s quite lolsy and actually has a personality. PHEW.

First musical memory?

My first distinct musical memory, and perhaps the one that made me really think ‘corr yeah, music’ was probably one Christmas about 13 years ago. My mum is crazy good on the piano (she has a trophy named after her!) and was playing with the whole family around the piano. I always remember how captivated everyone was and not really understanding it because i didn’t even like piano back then (oops).

First album you ever bought?

Green Day – American Idiot.

An album you would never listen to again?

Green Day – American Idiot.

Describe your vibe in three words.

Beating velvet rugs

Your inspirations, musical and otherwise?

There’s a homeless lady down the road with possibly the best attitude I’ve ever come across. That’s pretty inspirational I’d say. I think about her a lot, any time i’m bad-mooded, I picture the homeless lady being polite and smiley. Musically, I find artists like Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra’s recordings crazy. How did they get it to sound so good? I couldn’t even imagine what they could do with the equipment I’m using now.

What are your current jams?

I got into two albums recently. Anderson .Paak and Kaytranada. Both so so sick, and have motivated a track that I’ve just finished recording.

Any guilty pleasures (musical or non)?

Justin Bieber. Coyote Ugly. Those little Pez sweets but only with the dispenser

Favourite Beyonce song?

LOVE ON TOP. Especially when Rozi Crane sings it on Snapchat, jeeeez.
