Big up Sunil Heera. As XO, he’s another example of how, like us, the Asian diaspora are beginning to slowly seep into the world of music.. although obviously he’s way more talented and does more than just bash keys. On his latest mixtape Those Who Wander, he once again displays a flair for labyrinthine R&B with an emphasis on melody. We invited XO to join our Spotify playlist series, and you can hear more about it (and the actual thing, obvs) below.
“I’ve put together a playlist of 15 tracks which includes my own work, influences and stuff I’m currently listening to – selecting five of each. Each XO song has been taken from my latest mixtape “Those Who Wander” and I’ve chosen some of my favourites from the project, “No Games” & “Minds” in particular.
“As for my influences, I’ve picked a bunch of tracks/artists that played a part in me wanting to pursue music in some way, shape or form. For example, not many people know I started out making grime beats for local MCs – one of my favourite producers at the time was Bless Beats, hence the “Where’s My Brother” select.
“I’m constantly listening to different styles of music, so the list of current jams could be different on another day, however I implore everybody to check out Mike Irish’s “With Colours”. Amazing piece of art.”
