Hello. We’ve been a bit quiet but we’re back with eight cracking new tunes you may have missed over the last few days. It’s a bumper one but it’s a good ‘un…
Bishop Nehru – Up, Up, & Away (feat. Lion Babe)
OK, it might seem like Kaytranada is on everything these days but he’s proper bossed it on this new Bishop Nehru x Lion Babe track. The latter have rarely sounded better as they give a spring-ready bed of celestial vocals in between Nehru’s godly flow. Dynamite.
Beach House – Dive
We’ve been sceptical of our former favourite duo of all-time recently. They’ve been guilty of peddling the same old schtick for a while, so it’s such a relief to hear them on Dive. It’s dreamier and more uplifting than anything they’ve done recently, culminating in a guitar-heavy end that gives them fresh life we never knew they had.
Evan Giia – Westworld
Is it based on that shit TV show? Who gives a fuck, because Evan Giia’s Westworld is bold enough to be recognised all on its own. What starts as a stragithforward pop song soon descends into a bass-heavy / tropical lilt mash-up that works much better than we’re making it sound.
Handsome – Save Some Love
Sydney-based Handsome reminds us a bit of Loyal, but this queer-identifying gal is doing a solid job all on her own. Save Some Love is a skittish joy, coursing through various styles but tying them together in a magnificent swoop.
Cassyette – Push N Pull
Some straight-up pop now from newcomer Cassyette. The Londoner gives us an enjoyable taste of her sound with a song that doesn’t need any flash gimmicks, instead relying on her own charm and a solid chorus to win her over instead.
G Flip – About You
G Flip sounds like the name of a rapper, but Georgia Flipo from Melbourne gives it just as much fire on her debut track. About You resonates with a darker flavour than you’d expect, and it heralds the arrival of a talent to watch.
Denitia – Special
We like that Denitia’s new song is called Special. Truth is, she’s always been that for us in her every guise, and her R&B style is still as attractive as always here. There’s an honest, almost DIY approach to her vocal this time, but it all comes together on a lovely little bed of soulful triumph.
Brookemorgan – Pressure
A little treat at the end end here, something so under-radar it’s not even on Spotify yet. This FEMME-produced jam is a gorgeous little soul gem from a newcomer, riffing with flecks of funk and laidback guitar for a gorgeous, twinkling rooftop hit.
