We had our suspicions of Leo Kalyan being a bit ethnic like us. Why, you say? Because while the man is rooted in this country’s electronic new wave, there’s something about his melodies that feels like the sort of Bollywood stuff we grew up listening to. Of course, he’s now revealed that he’s studied a lot of Indian classical music, so it all makes sense when we hear the chorus of Daydream – it’s a rich and beautiful tapestry of a fantasy land, employing the sort of cadence that you just don’t hear so much in Western music. That’s why it works a treat, and it might just well be what makes Kalyan a star.
