One of last year’s most underrated new discoveries was definitely Aanysa. Only one track old – that too a collaboration with the mighty Snakehips – and we can barely believe the talent on this teen. She’s teeing up some new music later this year, but for now we found out more about her. Spoiler: she gives the best answer to our Beyonce question to date.

First musical memory?

I remember playing the djembe for the first time at my elementary school, where I grew up in Kansas City. It’s now one of my favorite instruments.

First album you ever bought?

The first album I ever bought was “Rated R” by Rihanna. That album was one of her best!

Describe your vibe in three words (but then tell us a bit more about the Snakehips collab, and also what we can expect in future).

My vibe is edgy, positive and creative. The sound is a mixture of 90’s skating rink and UK garage with some cool DJ elements thrown in there so Snakehips was perfect for the single. I’m currently working with the label to release another single and get busy with live performances.

An album you would never listen to again?

I’ll never listen to Lil Uzi Verts “Luv Is Rage ” album because it reminds me of my high school sweetheart. We used to wear that album out in his car. That didn’t turn out so good so… yeah… can’t hear those songs anymore. Don’t need to go back there.
Your inspirations, musical and otherwise.

My inspirations include Beyonce and Bruno Mars because of their overall artistry — their performances, social media presences, interaction with fans and much more! Jessie J and Carrie Underwood as well. They both have unique vocal techniques that I learn a lot from.

What are your current jams?

The 1975 – “Somebody Else”, Jhene Aiko – “Maniac”, Jacquees – “10-4”.

Any guilty pleasures, musical or non?

I love watching reruns of the Bad Girls Club, haha!

Favourite Beyonce song?

Flaws And All.
