OK, you got us. This isn’t the first time we’ve posted about NYC’s MAAD, but we certainly see something special enough in the upcoming R&B act to re-introduce her to you. Her latest track 90’s Love takes in melodic inspiration from that same decade, blending it with a modern sound that feels like it could propel her to the forefront of the genre. We decided to get to know the world of MAAD a bit better with a quick Q&A, which went something like this…
First musical memory?
Listening to Chic with my mother.
First album you ever bought?
Mariah Carey – #1s
Describe your vibe in three words (but then tell us a bit more about the EP, including 90’s Love).
Energetic, sassy, and chic! The EP has been in the works for about a year now and I have really found a group of people who compliment my sound to create a project I am truly proud of and can’t wait for the world to hear it. 90’s Love was birthed out of a moment of missing the feel of old-school romance. Damn, they really don’t make them like this no more!
An album you would never listen to again?
I’ve only purchased albums that I love!
Your inspirations, musical and otherwise?
Nile Rodgers & Miguel are two of my favorite musical inspirations.
What are your current jams?
AlunaGeorge – Mean What I Mean, Leikeli 47 – Money, and Solo by Frank Ocean.
Any guilty pleasures, musical or non?
Currently the mac & cheese with oxtail from The Edition Hotel in London!
And finally: favourite Beyonce song?
