UPCOMING: Mae Muller

Mae Muller definitely has that ‘thing’. The one that made us sit up ever since The Hoodie Song and keeps us hooked in ever since. She displays more of that bolshy, unteachable confidence on Pull Up, so we sent over a Q&A to find out a bit more about this rising talent…

First musical memory?
When I was about 6 my dad took me to see Lemon Jelly at the Kentish Town Forum. They were all dressed up at The Flinstone characters, it was wild.

First album you ever bought?
It was Love Angel Music Baby by Gwen Stefani. Technically my dad bought it because I asked him to.

Describe your vibe in three words (but then tell us a bit more about how Pull Up came along).
I think sassy, soulful and a bit silly. I would like to think so anyway! I try not to take myself too seriously, and try to have fun when I make music. Obviously some songs are more serious than others but my general vibe I think fits that criteria. Pull Up is more on the serious side, with a hint of sassiness.

Your inspirations, musical and otherwise?
I think my main sources of inspiration are women who are unapologetically themselves. Rihanna to Billie Eilish.

What are your current jams?
The new Lily Allen album is giving me life! Every song is a bop in a different way.

Your dream collaborations?
I’d love to collaborate with some bossy females. IAMDDB would be great.

And finally: Favourite Beyonce song?
That’s almost impossible! I love Resentment as one of her emotional ones, and Hold Up is a bop too.
