We’re no strangers to Sølv. Her dark pop impressed us on her Codeine EP, and she continues that run today with her impressively self-directed and self-produced track All To You. It’s a heady introduction to her talent, and we found out more about the lady herself below…

First musical memory?
When I was little I would always hide away in my bedroom, put on my Britney CD, pretend I was a pop star and belt out ‘I Love Rock and Roll’ over and over again… I was obsessed.

First album you ever bought?
I think it was Avril Lavigne when I was about 6!

Describe your vibe in three words (but then tell us a bit more about how All To You came about, both song and video).
Dark, electronic, alternative. All to You was the second song on my latest EP Codeine. It explores toxic relationships, when you’re drawn to the wrong people and stuck in limbo, waiting. But it’s not all negative as those relationships always teach you something. It’s probably the most personal track of the four which is why wanted to create a video for it; to make it a more three-dimensional experience.

How do you manage both producing and directing everything yourself?
It’s a very lateral process for me. I’ve always been a bit of a perfectionist and have a definite vision of what I want to achieve. I see my music as not only encompassing sound, but also imagery, so directing the video was a natural progression. I’d had the video concept since before I’d even finished producing the song! I could literally see the imagery in my mind play alongside the music. I was also lucky enough to work with some of my best friends on this project which made the process all the more fun.

Your inspirations, musical and otherwise?
My musical inspirations come from film, art, personal moments and experiences, even just a couple of words that speak to me can fuel and whole song. Visuals have always had the power to strike up instant inspiration for me, I once wrote an entire song based upon one photograph, it’s probably the fastest song I’ve ever written. My influences are always changing, but at the moment I’m really into R&B and dissecting/analysing drum beats and patterns. Outside of music, I find exploring new places hugely inspiring, whether it be a new city or just wondering around London getting lost. I’m always at my happiest when I’m doing something creative, so I love things like painting – it’s something I’m trying to make more of a conscious effort to do more often.

What are your current jams?
At the moment I can’t stop listening to Fukk Sleep – A$AP Rocky & FKA Twigz, House in LA – Jungle and This is America – Childish Gambino.

Your dream collaborations?
Wow there are so many… James Blake, A$AP Rocky, Bear Cubbs, Frank Ocean, The Internet, Stwo, Honne, Banks, SZA, Lana Del Rey… the list goes on.

And finally: favourite Beyonce song?
How can you even choose… I’m gonna go with Sweet Dreams.
